A Trip Back In Time: The Legends of the 90’s
Today we tend to see some sort of monotony on our streets. The everyday grind tends to be filled with nothing but grey, black, and white cars crawling in traffic. In a way, the joy of driving and seeing the beauty behind the automobile is stifled by the boredom of daily traffic. Things weren’t the same a few decades back, cars back then were unique and can be identified with their own quirks and features. Cars made back in the 90’s had flair, fancy modifications, and perhaps you could say their own individuality. Being the era most would consider as the golden age of automobiles and customization, the 90’s has since become the placeholder for the saying ‘they never made ‘em like they used to.’ The clamor for those good old days appears to be strong as we’ve witnessed a sizeable attendance during the Legends of the 90’s meet.
This time around, the founders of Legends of the 90’s held the year-opening meet at The Pop Up in Katipunan. Though the venue was smaller compared to previous meets – think fitting 200 cars in a small open-space parking lot – it was still considerably one of the best meets to date. This was probably because we were situated beside the Katipunan flyover, giving that feeling of being next to Daikoku or Tatsumi PA in Japan.
As with previous Legends of the 90’s meets, the event was well attended by a variety of makes and models; all of which were tastefully modified. Between the usual Hondas, Mitsubishis, and Toyotas, there was also a selection of European brands in attendance. The holy grail of JDM cars were well represented as well; The meet has you covered too from Evos, to GT-Rs, and even a sizeable sampling of Silvias. That said there were still a few special vehicles that still stood out in the sea of tasteful 90’s machinery.
Among the armada of Silvias in attendance, this light blue S14 stood out among the rest. Aside from its loud color, choice parts like its Orido Style Nardi steering wheel and many other fancy bits make it a superb example we ought to investigate soon.
Skyline GT-Rs were in strong attendance this time around. Four BNR32s and a BCNR33 made their presence known at one corner of the lot.
The lone NSX hails all the way from Batangas to attend this meet up north. The dedication is real it seems.
You’re probably sick of seeing my stock RX-7 at this point, so here’s an RE Amemiya FD for good measure. I know I know, you want a closer look at this too. Let’s save it for a bit later this year, trust me it’s worth the wait.
The Redbull truck is a staple of the Legends of the 90’s meet at this point. Having a tabletop DJ set with choice 90’s music playing throughout the afternoon truly sets the mood – making attendees feel all the more closer to travelling back in time.
Where else will you find Lancer Evolutions lined up from Evo I all the way to Evo V? This is the kind of quality you’ll only find from a perfectly and organized curated meet.
While they were outnumbered by all the Lancers, the GC8 Imprezas were keen to display themselves by making up for their quality instead.
The only JZA80 Supra that attended was very late to the party – thankfully it was sporting a Veilside kit and Volk GT-Cs and made a small crowd of its own.
While the NSX is Honda’s crowning prince, a squad of DC2 Integra Type Rs were grouped in one patch of the lot. Despite being all dressed in Championship White, each Integra had different approaches and methodologies to their builds.
With meets like Legends of the 90’s being attended by many folks with tasteful cars, it’s safe to say that the influence of 90’s era vehicles amongst our local enthusiasts is as strong as ever – and can only get stronger as the years go by. We’re pretty stoked to take part at the next meet, are you?
