Date Night with Godzillas: An Evening with GT-R Club of the Philippines

Meets don’t always have to be big and loud. Sometimes the smaller and more laidback, the better they are.

Take the GT-R Club Philippines meet we went to for example. Though we were late (well, very late) to the party, we still got to hang out and have a good time with the group over some good food and drinks. It seemed as if we were too chill in fact, I actually forgot bring a camera with me. Instead, I just borrowed a friend’s Fuji X100 for the night, but I digress.

It was the GT-R Club’s first meet for 2020, and they have grown a lot bigger than before. What usually consisted of three to four GT-Rs showing up has more than doubled. The R32 Skyline GT-Rs alone already consisted of half the group with six different cars showing up. To drive the point further, there were even more R32s than there were R35 GT-Rs. A surprising scene to behold considering the R35 is sold locally. Only two R34 GT-Rs were present at the meet composed of Jimbo’s RB28-powered V-Spec and Rudys’ unmolested M-Spec. A lone R33 GT-R was present, the newest unit owned by Dexter, the club president.

GTR - 6

Though it was essentially a GT-R club meet and it was nice to see familiar faces of non-R owners. The venue, Tipsy Pig at Capitol Commons, helped give it a chill vibe. The GT-Rs were casually parked along the street and were strictly reserved for them. Meanwhile, everyone else was just hanging around tables outside with a nice view of the cars in front of them. The scene also caught the attention of random passersby and cars passing along the street. Numerous people took photos, videos, and selfies with the various GT-Rs. Well, we don’t blame them. It’s not that often a group of older Skyline GT-Rs come out to meet in one location, let alone here in the Philippines.

GTR - 8

Dexter told us that despite their big number, a lot of other cars and members weren’t able to make it. There were more Skyline GT-Rs who weren’t present including a couple of R32s, R34s and a lot of R35s. Nonetheless, it was a great turnout for something that was just casual.

GTR - 9

Hopefully, we get to see more GT-R’s turn up at the club’s next meet. They will probably need to find a bigger venue to fit all the cars though.
